Corjuem Fort
The size of this little fort belies its strategic importance in history. Initially, held by the Bhonsles, it came to be occupied by the Portuguese. In fact, the Portuguese used it as a strategic defence point against the Marathas, Bhonsles and the Rane Rajputs. Built of pitted laterite, it is one of the two such inland forts that still survive in Goa. There is a small chapel here dedicated to Mae de Deus (Mother of God). The pristine island location of the fort bestows the spot with lots of natural appeal.
